Scooter Terminology
Air = Air is a scooter slang term for any time you jump or ollie. The higher you jump, the more "air" you will get.
Am = Amateur (Beginner in scooter riding)
Bail = Bail or more commonly used as "bailing" is the term for when a trick you're performing goes wrong and you leap away from the scooter to try for a pain-free landing.
Bombing = When you get a lot of speed - usually down a big hill.
Burly = A big trick with lots of potential for pain if you get it wrong.
Bust = If you bust a trick, you've got it right.
Carve = Pulling a big, fast, aerial scooter turn.
Dialed = When you get a trick right.
Fakie = A backward move - usually with the rear wheel touching the ground.
Flatspots = Clear spots on you wheels where the polyurethane has worn away.
Funbox = Any sort of box - usually a wooden one - that you grind or slide on.
Glopper = Someone who has made a really bad clothing decision.
Gnarly = Something that is really rad.
Goofy = You're goofy-footed if you ride with your left foot at the back.
Grommet = Little kid scooter riders.
Hang Up = Getting your front or rear wheel stuck during a trick.
Hip = A ramp section where you transfer over a 90 degree section to another ramp(also something really cool if you live in the 80's!)
Land To = A successfully completed trick.
Mongo = You are mongo-footed, or "pushing mongo," if you use your leading foot to push (Offensive)
Newbie = A new scooter rider. Also known as Noob or Newb
Old Skool = A trick, rider, or pretty much anything else that is old style.
Rad = When something totally blows you away!
Ripper = A good all-around scooter rider
Session = Any time you get together to scooter with your friends.
Sesh = See Session
Sick = See Gnarly
Sack It = If you bail and land with something smashed up between your legs.
Sketchy = Someone who's a little bit weird....and probably a glopper.
Slam = A very hard fall.
Snake = Someone who cuts you up bad.
Swellbow = The grisly result of falling on your elbow.
Technical = Any trick performed on flat ground or a fairly low ledge, involving plenty of technical skill. Also known as Tech
Tech Dog = A scooter rider who is really good at technical tricks.
Tweak = Adding a personal touch to a well-known trick.
